Chi Onwurah, MP celebrates Newcastle’s Biotech Economy at Synthetic Biology Conference in Silicon Valley
Newcastle Central MP and Shadow Minister for Science Research and Innovation Chi Onwurah spoke at SynBioBeta 2023 last week.
At the Conference, Chi named two great Newcastle based Synthetic Biology start-ups and also promoted Newcastle University’s Hub for Biotechnology in the Built Environment (HBBE).
- HBBE grows building materials from mushrooms and grew a structure using fungal mycelium and sawdust.
- Iksuda produces class-leading antibody drug conjugates, targeting cancerous cells whilst sparing healthy ones.
- NunaBio, a Newcastle University spin-out, have technology which synthesises DNA through enzymatic methods, making manufacturing DNA cheaper and quicker.
Chi said:
