The Bank of England’s approach to digital currencies and cross-border payments


The pandemic has accelerated the transformation of payments, with many countries looking into central bank digital currencies, upgrading real-time gross settlement systems or discussing next steps for cross-border payments. Sir Jon Cunliffe, Deputy Governor, Bank of England, will discuss how the Bank is engaging with the UK and international payments landscapes. He will discuss the outlook for CBDCs and expand on the timeframe for payment innovation as well as the steps necessary for improvements to national and cross-border payments and settlement.
