Oshkosh police mourn K9 Lando, who seized meth, fentanyl and currency


Lando, a German shepherd that served more than five years in the K9 unit of the Oshkosh Police Department, was euthanized June 3 after not responding to treatment for an autoimmune disorder.

OSHKOSH – Oshkosh Police Department recently announced the passing of K9 Lando.

Police said in a news release that K9 Lando recently became unexpectedly ill and was found to have an autoimmune disease, Myasthenia Gravis. Medical staff tried to treat the illness, the release said, but Lando was not responding and had to be euthanized.

K9 Lando was a German Shepard born July 26, 2016. He was acquired by the Oshkosh Police Department in March 2018 from K9 Services in Albuquerque, New Mexico. He was assigned to Officer Fettig from 2018 to 2020 and to Officer Martinez from 2020 to present.

During his career, K9 Lando completed 1,437.25 hours of training, 151.5 certification hours and 283 deployments. His seizure numbers are as follow:

  • Cocaine: 62.9 grams
  • Methamphetamine: 102.5 grams
  • Marijuana: 9.38 pounds
  • Fentanyl: 3.40 grams
  • MDMA: 8.71 grams
  • Heroin: 13.3 grams
  • Drug paraphernalia: 131 pieces
  • Illegally possessed prescriptions: 210 pills
  • Firearms: 3 guns
  • Bite apprehensions: 1
  • Currency seized: $25,974
  • THC oil/wax/edibles: 214.08 grams

A memorial service was June 9 at Leach Amphitheater. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Oshkosh Police Department’s K9 Program, Attn: Sgt. Romanowicz, 420 Jackson St., Oshkosh, WI 54901.

Oshkosh Chamber announces two recent hires:Oshkosh Chamber of Commerce has welcomed Blaz Daul as its new marketing and communications coordinator and Brianna Gonnering as its new special events coordinator.

Blaz Daul

Daul graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point with a bachelor’s degree in marketing. Previously, he has held roles with Smart IS International and American Marketing and Publishing.

Daul will be responsible for implementing and maintaining the Oshkosh Chamber’s marketing, PR and communications plan.

Brianna Gonnering

Gonnering is a recent graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh where she earned her bachelor’s degree in communication studies.

Before joining the Oshkosh Chamber, Gonnering was an intern for SECURA Insurance. She will be responsible for the planning and execution of chamber events, including Business After Hours, AM Oshkosh, seminars, the Business Expo, golf outings and more.
