Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the , and sectors propelled shares higher.

The biggest gainers of the session on the were Antofagasta PLC (LON:), which rose 5.57% or 80.00 points to trade at 1,515.50 at the close. Intermediate Capital Group PLC (LON:) added 5.22% or 69.50 points to end at 1,402.00 and Glencore PLC (LON:) was up 4.87% or 21.30 points to 458.35 in late trade.
Biggest losers included International Consolidated Airlines Group S.A. (LON:), which lost 2.28% or 3.65 points to trade at 156.60 in late trade. Bunzl PLC (LON:) declined 2.02% or 58.00 points to end at 2,816.00 and Carnival PLC (LON:) shed 1.15% or 15.00 points to 1,292.50.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1228 to 436 and 454 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was up 1.34% or 26.00 to $1,963.10 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in August rose 0.98% or 0.73 to hit $75.56 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract rose 0.65% or 0.52 to trade at $79.92 a barrel.
GBP/USD was up 0.46% to 1.30, while EUR/GBP rose 0.63% to 0.86.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 1.13% at 100.26.
