U.K. shares higher at close of trade; Investing.com United Kingdom 100 up 0.54%


Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the , and sectors propelled shares higher.

At the close in London, the rose 0.54% to hit a new 1-month high.

The biggest gainers of the session on the were DCC plc (LON:), which rose 3.81% or 179.00 points to trade at 4,875.00 at the close. Ashtead Group PLC (LON:) added 2.48% or 112.00 points to end at 4,634.00 and Glencore PLC (LON:) was up 2.40% or 11.35 points to 483.60 in late trade.

Biggest losers included Tui AG (LON:), which lost 5.36% or 31.60 points to trade at 558.00 in late trade. Carnival PLC (LON:) declined 4.80% or 35.00 points to end at 694.60 and International Consolidated Airlines Group S.A. (LON:) shed 4.03% or 6.05 points to 144.15.

Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1012 to 762 and 478 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.

In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was up 0.21% or 4.15 to $2,023.15 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in May rose 2.23% or 1.82 to hit $83.35 a barrel, while the June Brent oil contract rose 1.99% or 1.70 to trade at $87.31 a barrel.

GBP/USD was up 0.48% to 1.25, while EUR/GBP unchanged 0.34% to 0.88.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.69% at 101.18.
