U.K. shares higher at close of trade; Investing.com United Kingdom 100 up 0.52%


Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the , and sectors propelled shares higher.

At the close in London, the gained 0.52% to hit a new 3-month high.

The biggest gainers of the session on the were Standard Chartered PLC (LON:), which rose 5.04% or 29.20 points to trade at 609.00 at the close. HSBC Holdings PLC (LON:) added 4.44% or 21.70 points to end at 510.30 and Prudential PLC (LON:) was up 3.92% or 36.40 points to 964.80 in late trade.

Biggest losers included Halma PLC (LON:), which lost 6.30% or 143.00 points to trade at 2,128.00 in late trade. Sage Group PLC (LON:) declined 3.68% or 30.00 points to end at 786.00 and Ferguson Plc (LON:) shed 2.91% or 284.00 points to 9,490.00.

Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1029 to 775 and 471 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.

In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.58% or 10.10 to $1,750.40 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in January rose 1.46% or 1.13 to hit $78.37 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract rose 0.77% or 0.65 to trade at $84.54 a barrel.

GBP/USD was unchanged 0.10% to 1.20, while EUR/GBP unchanged 0.10% to 0.86.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.02% at 106.65.
