U.K. shares higher at close of trade; Investing.com United Kingdom 100 up 0.25%


Investing.com – U.K. equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the , and sectors propelled shares higher.

At the close in London, the rose 0.25% to hit a new 3-year high.

The biggest gainers of the session on the were Samsung Electronics Co Ltd DRC (LON:), which rose 5.25% or 61.50 points to trade at 1,234.00 at the close. EasyJet PLC (LON:) added 4.49% or 16.70 points to end at 388.90 and Antofagasta PLC (LON:) was up 4.32% or 71.50 points to 1,726.50 in late trade.

Biggest losers included Fresnillo PLC (LON:), which lost 3.44% or 33.20 points to trade at 931.80 in late trade. BAE Systems PLC (LON:) declined 2.64% or 22.60 points to end at 835.20 and Persimmon PLC (LON:) shed 2.26% or 30.00 points to 1,295.00.

Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1112 to 717 and 464 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.

In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was up 0.26% or 4.85 to $1,874.55 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in February rose 1.94% or 1.43 to hit $75.20 a barrel, while the March Brent oil contract rose 1.65% or 1.30 to trade at $79.87 a barrel.

GBP/USD was up 0.85% to 1.22, while EUR/GBP unchanged 0.15% to 0.88.

The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.82% at 102.80.
