India Canada News LIVE: Research expert weigh on the India Canada row

On Canadian PM Justin Trudeau’s claim of India’s role in the killing of Khalistani leader HardeepSinghNijjar, Dinsha Mistree (Research Fellow at Stanford Law School) said “I think there are several lessons that can be drawn from this, specifically to the US-India relationship. What is the Canada-India relationship now? It has deteriorated over something that didn’t necessarily need to deteriorate…We should be proactive to prevent something like that from even coming to anybody’s mind. That takes an aggressive approach to Khalistani activism, it takes some deep conversations, I really liked the idea of sitting down with the Indians and thinking how we should define terrorism, more collaboration – if we do not do it we could end up in a situation like what we are seeing right now transpire with Canada-India or worse.”

I mean, you want growth to slow, you want it to be in line with potential when you’re operating at full employment,” Yellen told reporters on Tuesday after a climate finance event in New York during the U.N. Trudeau’s claim of India’s link to Nijjar’s killing a ‘shameless action’, Washington shouldn’t be part of it, says US expert

A US expert has termed Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s claim of a “potential link” between Indian government agents and the killing of a Khalistani leader a “shameless and cynical action” and urged the United States not be part of it. Participating in a panel discussion at the Hudson Institute think-tank, Michael Rubin, Senior Fellow at American Enterprise Institute, claimed Trudeau is playing into the hands of people who are looking at the Khalistani movement as a movement of ego and profit. Canada and India have expelled a senior diplomat each after Trudeau alleged the involvement of “agents of the Indian government” in the killing of a prominent Sikh separatist leader Hardeep Singh Nijjar, 45, in Surrey in June, claims outrightly rejected by New Delhi as “absurd” and “motivated”.

Canada’s call for accusations against India met with reluctance from allies: Report

Weeks before Canada made an explosive allegation implicating Indian officials in the killing of Sikh separatist leader Hardeep Singh Nijjar, Canadian officials sought public condemnation of the murder from their allies, including the United States, but were met with reluctance, The Washington Post reported. The same highlights the diplomatic challenges faced by the Biden administration and its allies as they try to navigate relations with India, a crucial player in the region, the report noted. The alleged assassination of Nijjar, a Canadian citizen, on June 18, led to behind-the-scenes discussions among senior officials from the Five Eyes countries in the weeks leading up to the September Group of 20 summit in New Delhi.
