Ethereum Co-Founder Vitalik Buterin Praises Elon Musk’s Community Notes For Bridging ‘Crypto Values’ With Reality By Benzinga

Benzinga – After Mark Zuckerberg, Elon Musk’s X, formerly known as Twitter’s “Community Notes” feature, has received praise from Ethereum (CRYPTO: ETH) co-founder Vitalik Buterin.

What Happened: In a blog post on his website, Buterin said that X’s Community Notes feature could be the best example of what he calls “crypto values” becoming a reality in the real world.

“It’s not perfect, but it’s surprisingly close to satisfying the ideal of credible neutrality, all while being impressively useful, even under contentious conditions, at the same time,” he said.

Buterin went on to explain a thorough examination of the Community Notes algorithm stating that it is very “complex” as it is not just calculating an average score of people’s votes to decide how useful a comment is.

He also shared examples where the feature has helped add more information to misleading pictures or tweets, including those related to COVID-19.

The Ethereum co-founder also mentioned Musk and the speculations that the tech billionaire might use the feature to delete specific content because he has certain business interests. However, “the algorithm is open source and verifiable, so we can actually look under the hood!”

For the unversed, Twitter’s Community Notes, previously known as Birdwatch, made a comeback in December 2022 under the ownership of Musk. This unique feature empowers users to append notes to potentially misleading tweets and rate them.

Why It’s Important: Earlier this year, Community Notes, which Musk dubbed as a feature that will identify false statements on the platform, revealed that sometimes notes can also have “inaccuracies.”

Previously, Meta CEO commended the feature, saying that adding flags is to improve user experience rather than remove information.
