Vegan Extravaganza: Florida Restaurant Serves Up a $69 Plant-Based Steak
Would you pay $69 for a plant-based steak?
One company in Florida is banking on the vegan market by introducing a meatless steak to its menu.
Charley’s Steak House has added a plant-based steak to its menu, claiming it is the first steakhouse in the United States to do so. The 6-ounce fake steak is made by Chunk Foods and is now on the menu at Charley’s Orlando location.
“It’s so close to meat based that it fooled us, and honestly, you want more and more of it…It fulfills that niche that we’ve lacked for so long.” Executive Vice President Clark Woodsby
According to a report in Insider, “Talk of the Town Restaurant Group [which owns Charley’s Steak House], is so confident in the plant-based filet that it has committed to buying 100,000 units from Chunk. By October, Chunk’s steak alternative will roll out to Talk of the Town’s other dining concepts in Central Florida, including two other Charley’s, FishBones, Texas Cattle Company, and Vito’s Chop House.”
Chuck Foods makes its plant-based steak with fermented soy and wheat, beet juice, coconut oil, and fortified iron.
