Why Bitcoin, Ethereum, and Shiba Inu are falling

Many cryptocurrencies continued to slide Friday as investors digest the fallout from the crypto bank Silvergate Capital (NYSE: SI) and evaluate its ability to stay in business.

The price of the world’s largest cryptocurrency, Bitcoin (CRYPTO: BTC), is trading 4.3% lower than late yesterday afternoon as of 10 a.m. ET today. The price of the world’s second-largest cryptocurrency, Ethereum (CRYPTO: ETH), is roughly 4.1% lower, while the price of the meme token Shiba Inu (CRYPTO: SHIB) is down 5.8%.

So what?

After the market closed Wednesday, Silvergate submitted a filing to the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), stating that it would need to delay the filing of its annual report as it analyzed the impact of several events on its business.
