UK weather outlook for the Easter bank holiday weekend as low pressure arrives

Find out the details in our Easter weekend weather forecast, as low pressure is going to bring us a dose of early April showers this weekend. But between those showers there will be some warm, spring sunshine in the UK.

As we approach April over the Easter weekend, our weather patterns are slightly ahead of the game. This weekend will be dominated by April showers – but a few days early. These showers will be generated by an area of low pressure that has anchored itself just off our west coast and will refuse to budge all weekend. This is quite unusual for a low-pressure system – usually they whip through rapidly.

Despite the potential to get wet, April showers also bring some glorious spring sunshine between the rain clouds. So, if you can keep your wet weather gear handy, you can enjoy the brighter weather too.

With winds spinning anticlockwise around a low pressure, we’ll see them coming from the south west, driving those showers in from the Atlantic. And there will be lots of them for Good Friday. They will start out predominantly around southern and western coasts in the morning, with lots of sun elsewhere. But as the day progresses, more and more showers will form, and practically everywhere is at risk of a burst of wet weather. Northern Scotland is most likely to stay dry, but it’s not a guarantee – keep your umbrella or rain jacket handy.

Temperatures will be widely in the low to mid teens, but a bit chillier in the far north. These are the temperatures in the shade, so if you are in the sun it will actually feel pleasantly warm for most of us.

Saturday

The low weakens somewhat on Saturday, but it will stay in roughly the same location. A weather front in the channel may clip areas of the South East. Most of the showers will be in Scotland on Saturday, and it will generally be dryer and sunnier. That said, there could be a stray shower further south, so it may be wise to keep some wet weather gear handy. Temperatures will be similar to Friday, and maybe a degree or so warmer for some of us.

There will be sun to enjoy over the Easter weekend, but it would be sensible to be prepared for rain showers as well

Easter Sunday

The low remains in place for Sunday. The weather looks like it will be more similar to Friday than Saturday, with an increased number of showers over a more widespread area. The forecasts are tending to put more showers in the west and north, but in reality, they could crop up anywhere, so be prepared if you are outdoors.

Easter Monday

For Easter Monday, the low is forecast to split in two, with the more intense half predicted to move through northern France. This will bring fronts that may just stretch into South East England, so it might be worth checking the forecasts closer to the date if you think you might get caught by them.

Further north, the showers still remain. So as with the rest of the weekend, enjoy the sunny spells, but be prepared for the wetter periods.
