An official with U.S. Bank is citing changes to client’s banking preferences as part of the reason for the upcoming closure of the downtown Roseburg branch.
Regional Communications Manager Jake Holtrop told News Radio 93-9 FM and 1240 KQEN that the shift includes a rapid migration toward digital and mobile banking platforms and a desire for greater simplicity. Holtrop said as the company evolves along with its clients, U.S. Bank is reevaluating its physical footprint and in some instances is consolidating branch locations in select markets. He said while some branches are being closed, the company is continuing to open and enhance others, as well as rapidly enhancing its digital capabilities.
While signage announcing the closure of the branch on Southeast Main Street was posted in recent days, Holtrop said customers received notification of the move in late January. The branch will be shuttered on April 29th. U.S. Bank has a long history of service to Roseburg with operations beginning locally in 1900. Exactly when the location on Main Street opened is unclear. Holtrop told KQEN that that information is not available. The physical space was home to a City of Roseburg fire station before the 1959 Blast. Some residents have said they remember the bank being on Main Street going back to the 1960s.
While Holtrop said the company doesn’t release information on how many staff work at a specific location, he said employees who wish to stay with the bank are encouraged to pursue other opportunities that may be available. That could include roles in other locations, as well as remote positions.
Holtrop said the Garden Valley branch at 2080 Northwest Stewart Parkway, approximately two miles from downtown, will remain open. He said the company will maintain the Main Street property after the branch closes and will market it to interested buyers.
