Thousands in the UK are poised to get £150 off their energy bills from tomorrow as a scheme reopens. Bill payers will get the money off their electricity bill between October and March 2024 under the government Warm Home Discount scheme, which will be welcomed by many.
The scheme officially reopens tomorrow, October 16 and is available to cash-strapped Brits amid the Cost of Living crisis, at a time where they may struggle to make ends meet. The scheme offers a one-off discount on UK households’ gas and electricity bills – worth £150.
The money will be provided in the form of a saving between October 2023, with the start date from tomorrow, and March 2024. The scheme is set to open in England, Wales and Scotland, according to the government, with an eligibility criteria laid out by on its website.
Anybody on Housing Benefit, Income-related Employment and Support Allowance (ESA) or Income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance (JSA) can apply, as well as anybody on Income Support “Savings Credit” part of Pension Credit, Universal Credit, Working Tax Credit or Child Tax Credit.
If you weren’t claiming any of the above benefits on August 13 you won’t be eligible for the payment. The money is paid directly by the Department for Work and Pensions ( DWP ) to energy suppliers between October and March. The participating suppliers include 100Green (formerly Green Energy UK or GEUK), Affect Energy – see Octopus Energy, Atlantic – see SSE Energy Services, Boost and British Gas.
