Thousands of families are set to get Christmas cost of living payments worth between £150 and £350. Thousands of families are being urged to check if they are eligible for up to an extra £350 cost of living payment with the Household Support Fund, which is being distrubted by the government to cash-strapped households amid the ongoing financial hardship.
Each council’s allocation of the £842million fund will vary so the amount available for residents will differ. In Tandridge, for instance, the local authority will open applications on December 11 and says: “We are not accepting applications for the Household Support Fund.
“We will open the Fund from 10am on Monday 11 December. Please apply quickly as we will close the fund once all the money has been allocated.” The local authority accepts applications from, or on behalf of, people who are in financial difficulties. The person receiving the funds must be over the age of 16.

They must also live in the Tandridge district and be in financial difficulty and struggling to meet the cost of essential items like food, fuel or energy bills for themselves or their dependents. You will need to submit evidence online such as bank statements and arrears letters, the council warns.
“We will notify you once a decision has been made on your application. Payments will be by BACS transfer to your nominated bank account 10 working days after the date your application is approved, it may be longer if checks are required,” the council states on its website.
If your application is successful, then single households will receive £150. Households with children will receive £350, though. The local authority adds: “There may be a delay in December due to the Council Offices being closed on Friday 22 December and over the Christmas and new year bank holidays.”
