Technical Finance Officer – VAT and Banking – WMF1185e job with Westmorland and Furness Council

We are looking for two Technical Finance Officers to join our friendly, welcoming, and supportive Finance Team.

Our Technical Finance Officers will be part of the Finance Service that provides transactional services, cash receipting and income management, preparation of VAT returns, bank reconciliations, control accounting and reconciliations.

The posts will support the relevant legacy systems, their harmonisation, and retirement, as well as support the future relevant system solutions. The posts are technical in specialist areas of finance, providing robust advice, ensuring compliance, and proper accounting practice.

The posts will have line management responsibility and should have strong people management skills as these roles are responsible for the management, motivation and supporting the development of staff within the Finance Team, in order to secure efficient performance of duties.

Who we are looking for

We are looking for two experienced and enthusiastic people, with the drive and commitment to support the Council’s move towards its objective of becoming Financially Sustainable. It is anticipated that:

• Role 1 – will focus on preparation of VAT returns including acting as the Council’s VAT expert and monitoring and reconciliation of control accounts. You will have an extensive practical knowledge and technical background in VAT practices.
• Role 2 – will focus on overseeing the day to day management of the Council’s principal bank accounts including the release of Accounts Payable and payroll BACS runs, prompt and accurate reconciliation of the bank accounts. You will have the ability to manage and motivate staff, supporting their development while continuing your own personal and professional development.
