Today is the late May bank holiday and major supermarkets will be adjusting their opening times to represent the holiday.

With every bank holiday, it’s handy to be aware of any changes to store opening times should you need to embark on a last-minute supermarket run. Here we explain everything you need to know about when supermarkets will be open today.

Tesco

On the bank holiday Monday the majority of larger Tesco stores across England and Wales will be open from 8am to 6pm, while in Scotland stores will open from 8am to 8pm. In Northern Irland stores will open from 7am until 11:59pm. All Tesco’s smaller convenience stores were open as normal over the whole bank holiday weekend from between 6am and 7am until between 10pm and midnight – that will remain the same today.

Sainsbury’s

The majority of Sainsbury’s across England and Wales will be open from 8am until 8pm today while it’s convenience stores will be open from 7am until either 10pm or 11pm. Scottish Sainsbury’s stores will remain open today under their normal trading times from around 7am until 10pm.

Morrisons

Morrisons shops in England and Wales will open at 7am and close at 8pm today. Again, trading hours in Scotland are a little different, and these stores will open under their normal shopping hours which can be from 7am until 10pm or 11pm.

Asda

On May 27, larger Asda stores the majority of Asda stores will be opening a tad later at 8am and closing at 10pm. However, this is not widespread as some Asda stores will be opening as early as 6am. Scottish stores will be open as usual, so could be as early as 6am to as late as midnight. Asda’s smaller convenience stores – Asda Express – will be open as normal over the weekend – including on the bank holiday, Asda’s 24-hour Express stores will be also open as normal.

Aldi

Today, Aldi shops will open as normal at 8am but will close slightly earlier than normal at 8pm – rather than their usual 10pm. Again, the exception is in Scotland, where regular 8am until 10pm shopping hours will be in place for most stores.

Lidl

On the bank holiday Monday, Lidl stores will be open from 8am to 8pm. Although this can vary depending on where your local store is based, for example, if it’s in a shopping centre then it could close earlier.

Waitrose

Opening hours at Waitrose vary considerably from store to store. Some stores open as early as 7am whilst others don’t open until 9am. This is the same with its closing hours with some shutting shop for the day as early as 5pm and others as late as 10pm. The bank holiday hours do show that some Waitrose stores will be opening under their usual hours and closing an hour or two earlier.

M&S

On the bank holiday, it appears stores will be opening under their normal hours but closing an hour or two earlier depending on where it is. The majority of M&S stores will open between 8am and 9am today and close between 6pm and 9pm.
