Oakham Banking Hub to open at former Lloyds Bank in High Street

The location of a town’s new ‘banking hub’ has been revealed.

Cash Access UK, the organisation set up to protect nationwide access to cash, announced today (Thursday, December 21) that the hub in Oakham will be located at 43 High Street.

When it opens, it will offer a counter service operated by the Post Office, at which customers of all major banks and building societies can carry out regular cash transactions.

This will be open from Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm.

There will also be a community banker service, allowing customers to talk to someone from their own bank about more complicated issues, on the day their bank is in the hub.

Community bankers will work on rotation:

• Monday: Barclays

• Tuesday: NatWest

• Wednesday: Santander

• Thursday: Lloyds

• Friday: HSBC

The hub, which is based in the building which was formerly Lloyds Bank, is now being fitted out and an opening date will be announced in the new year.

So far there are 31 hubs open across the country.

Gareth Oakley, chief executive of Cash Access UK, said: “We are delighted to be able to confirm the location for the Oakham Banking Hub.

“We know more people are banking online and paying for things with cards and digitally, but access to cash is still important and I’m really pleased that we will soon be able to open the new hub and bring banking services back to the town.”

Alicia Kearns, MP for Rutland and Melton, said: “Oakham receiving a banking hub is really great news for our community and for all those who rely on cash and face-to-face banking.

“I genuinely believe this new hub will offer better access to banking than we had before, with five different banks operating from the same site.

“I so look forward to its opening and I am so pleased that Rutlanders will benefit from this new infrastructure.”
