  • Aussies unable to access funds due to glitch
  • Can’t pay for daily essentials or transfer funds
  • Commonwealth Bank says it’s investigating

A major Commonwealth Bank outage has left millions of Australians unable to access their money or transfer funds.

Customers received a ‘current balance unavailable’ alert while trying to access the app on Monday morning.

Desktop users trying assess their fund online were met with the message: ‘Sorry, something’s gone wrong.’

Netbank users are also unable to access their accounts, transfer funds online or use their cards to make purchases.

The Commsec brokerage app and website is also down for many customers, while others reported ATMs have also been affected.

Commonwealth Bank has launched an urgent investigation into the glitch impacting ‘multiple services’ and told Daily Mail Australia further updates will be provided as more information becomes available.

‘We’re aware some customers are experiencing difficulties accessing some of our services and we are urgently investigating,’ the bank posted online.

‘We are sorry for the inconvenience and thank you for your patience. We’ll provide an update soon.’

The update added: ‘We’re aware that customers continue to experience issues accessing some of our services. We’ll keep everyone updated here and also on commbank.com.au/updates.’

The bank has since urged frustrated customers to be patient and not ring its call centres which have been flooded with high volume of inquiries.

Commonwealth Bank branches are open but have warned of delays as they continue serve customers with other banking needs.

‘Please be aware our branch staff will not have further information. We thank you for your patience and, please be mindful of the wellbeing of our people as they continue to service customers,’ the bank added.

Aussies have unleashed on the bank, as the outage leaves them unable to pay for daily essentials such as groceries, medication and petrol.

Some complained they hadn’t been able access their funds since 6.30am.

‘Super frustrating not being able to do anything this morning because I can’t access funds to complete any tasks,’ one said.

One woman added, ‘Just had to ditch the shopping at Coles ’cause I couldn’t transfer money over from one account to my card account.’

Another wrote: ‘Awesome when I’m at the chemist getting medication for my unwell children. Thanks, Commbank.’

Customers currently travelling overseas have also been left in the lurch.

‘Card declined which we are using for accommodation in the USA, extremely embarrassing and left us exposed to having no accommodation. Homeless in the US. App won’t even allow to communicate,’ one man commented.

Many have demanded compensation for the inconvenience, prompting some to leap to the bank’s defence.

‘Commonwealth has not done it on purpose. Most of them would also need to transfer for various reasons themselves, you know, being people and all. Besides, they didn’t create technology,’ one said.

‘It’s a pain in the bum. It’s caused issues for many. They are aware, that’s why they have apologised and are trying to fix it. Be better, for god’s sakes’.
