Liz Truss hails opening of permanent Banking Hub for Downham Market

Conservative candidate for South West Norfolk Liz Truss has welcomed the first day’s business at a permanent Banking Hub for Downham.

When it emerged that Lloyds – the last bank to have a presence in the town – was closing its Bridge Street branch, Ms Truss campaigned as the serving MP to ensure that residents would continue to have access to cash and banking services and successfully lobbied for a Cash Access UK Banking Hub.

A temporary Banking Hub has been serving Downham for the last three months out of the Town Hall, but from Friday (June 28), the permanent Banking Hub is open for business every weekday between 9am and 5pm at 10-12 High Street.

Ms Truss said: “People want to be able to withdraw and deposit cash, pay in cheques and settle utility bills in person rather than just dealing with their bank online or by phone.

“As soon as it became clear Downham was losing its final bank branch, I campaigned on behalf of all the concerned constituents who contacted me to ensure that they would still have in-person access to these vital services.
