A male prostitute who murdered his elderly architect lover was caught after bank staff spotted a hand holding his victim’s head steady while validating a transfer to drain his account.

Jose Henrique Aguiar Soares, 22, killed the 64-year-old after visiting him at his home in the Setor Oeste region of Goiania, state of Goias, Brazil on September 25.

He then used the older man’s phone to try and access his online banking but had to prop his head up to bypass the facial recognition.

The transfer was successful but later flagged as suspicious after the bank’s security department were sent photos of the access attempts and saw what looked like a hand holding the man’s head up.

Police called to the account holder’s address found his body posed clutching a crucifix as if he had taken his own life.

But when they checked the CCTV they saw images of Soares leaving the building at 5am with a large suitcase.

He was arrested when he returned to the property, apparently hoping to claim he had suddenly discovered the lifeless corpse and that police would assume it was a case of suicide.

Police said he initially gave a false name before confessing to the murder when they quickly traced his real identity and found he was already wanted over other financial crimes.

He is currently in custody while police continue the investigation.
