Israel-Hamas War News Live Updates: The Palestinian Health Ministry on Sunday said the death toll in the Gaza Strip and West Bank has mounted to 2,383.
Israel-Hamas War Live Updates, Day 9 (October 15): Lebanese militant group Hezbollah and Israeli medical professionals have said that one person died and three others were wounded after an anti-armour missile was fired from inside Lebanon at an Israeli border village. The army is now striking back at Lebanon in retaliation, and has declared a zone within 4 km of the Lebanese border off-limits to public access, news agency Reuters said. The medics had initially said two people were wounded in the attack on Shtula, a farming community the abuts the border fence, opposite the Lebanese community of Ayta a-Shab.
The Palestinian Health Ministry on Sunday said the death toll in the Gaza Strip and West Bank has mounted to 2,383, news agency Reuters reported. At least 10,814 have been injured in the ongoing war between Israel and Palestinian militant group Hamas. In Gaza, the death toll climbed to 2,329, with 9,714 wounded, while in the West Bank, 54 were recorded dead and 1,100 wounded.

United States President Joe Biden on Saturday spoke to both Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, with the latter stressing the urgent need to allow urgent humanitarian aid corridors in Gaza, according to news agency AP. Biden’s call with Abbas was the first since the war between Israel and Hamas broke out on October 7. The US, which has re-affirmed “unwavering support” to Israel, has sent the Eisenhower aircraft carrier strike group, its second, towards the Eastern Mediterranean. Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin, who was recently in Israel, described it as “part of our effort to deter hostile actions against Israel or any efforts toward widening this war following Hamas’s attack on Israel.”

Al Aqsa refers to the compound of Islamic religious buildings, including the Dome of Rock and Al Aqsa Mosque, in Jerusalem’s Old City. Located adjacent to Christian and Jewish religious sites, it has been a flashpoint in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. ‘Operation Al Aqsa Storm’ is the name of the recent Hamas operation.
Balfour Declaration
The Declaration was a public statement issued in 1917 by British Foreign Secretary Arthur Balfour to Lord Rothschild, a leader of the British Jewish community. The statement, for the first time, promised British support for a “Jewish national home” in Palestine, at the time a British Mandate. It went on to be the basis of the creation of Israel, 30 years later.
