Five people have been arrested in the Kanjhawala incident in Delhi where a 20-year-old woman was killed after her scooty was allegedly hit by a car and she was dragged for a few kilometres on Sunday, informed Deputy Commissioner of Police (Outer District) Harendra K Singh on Monday.
“As per our investigation, it was a fatal accident. All five persons who were present in the car have been arrested. They will be produced before the court today. The postmortem of the deceased woman will be conducted through a board of doctors,” DCP told ANI.
Meanwhile, the deceased’s mother told ANI, “I had a conversation with her at around 9 pm, and she said she will return by 3-4 am. She used to work as an event planner for weddings. In the morning, I got a call from the police and was informed about the accident. I was taken to the police station and was made to wait.”
“When my brother arrived at Police Station, he was told about the death of my daughter. My brother told me about it,” said the mother of the deceased.

NCW demands Sultanpuri accident victim’s post mortem
The NCW on Monday sought a post mortem of the Sultanpuri accident victim to find out whether she was sexually assaulted. It said an FIR under relevant sections must be invoked if the allegations levelled by the victim’s mother are found to be true. A 20-year-old woman riding scooter was dragged under a car for several kilometres after allegedly being hit by it in outer Delhi’s Sultanpuri on Sunday, according to police. The National Commission for Women in a statement said the woman’s mother has alleged that the men raped her daughter and that is why her body was found naked.

Rescuers in Vietnam were desperately trying to free a 10-year boy on Monday two days after he fell into the narrow open shaft of a concrete pile at a construction site on New Year’s Eve. Ly Hao Nam was heard crying for help shortly after he fell into the pile on Saturday morning, but rescuers received no response from him on Monday as they lowered a camera down to try to locate his position in the 35-metre long support pillar. Three of family killed in duplex fire in Ahmedabad
A couple and their eight-year-old son were killed in a fire that broke out in a bedroom of their duplex house in Ahmedabad on Monday morning, a fire official said. The victims were in the bedroom located on the first floor of the house when the blaze erupted at around 5 am, divisional fire officer Om Jadeja said. “The cause of the fire is not yet clear and a forensic team has been engaged to ascertain it. We cannot rule out the possibility of suicide. It is also possible that the family was using fire to keep the room warm and got trapped when the blaze erupted,” he said.
Shallow fog envelops Delhi, minimum temperature dips
Shallow fog enveloped Delhi on Monday with the minimum temperature dipping to 8 degrees Celsius, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said. However, the Air Quality Index in the national capital was recorded at 239 under the “poor” category. “For the next three days, surface wind speed (calm to 12 km/h) and temperature (saximum 19-18 degrees Celsius; minimum 6-4 degrees) are likely to worsen the air quality. Mixing layer height is likely to be 1.0 km that helps dilution of pollutants,” said System of Air Quality and Weather Forecasting and Research.

At least 10 people were killed and eight others seriously injured in an explosion that rocked the Kabul military airport on Sunday. Abdul Nafee Takkur, a spokesman for the Taliban interior ministry, said an explosion caused injuries close to the airport’s main gate in Kabul. The step has been taken in view of the student’s interests and health, the order said. “On the order of the district magistrate, all recognised schools are to open from 10 am till 2 pm for class 1 to class 8 in view of the cold wave in the state, from January 2 to January 10,” read the official notice issued on January 1 under the Uttar Pradesh’s Basic Education Department.
