Lloyds, Bank of Scotland and Halifax are all among those closing down branches across the UK.

It will add to the growing tally of banks disappearing from Scotland’s high streets.

More and more banks are making the move to online banking.

We recently told how almost 200 banks are set to close down in 2024 – including big-name lenders which are staples on the UK high street.

A total of 42 branches will close across Britain with be axed next month, and five of them are north of the border.

Here is the full list of bank branches in Scotland that will close in February and the dates they will be axed:

The disappearing need for physical bank branches comes as more and more people choose to do their banking online.

The hundreds of vanishing branches can be an issue for elderly people who struggle to use the internet, especially older people in rural areas who may not have access to the web.

What do I do if my branch closes?

The vast majority of banking customers are moving online and don’t need a physical branch as much as before.

But any closures can be an issue for others, particularly elderly people in rural areas who don’t have access to the internet.

However, if your local branch is set to close, or has recently, you have some options.

You can carry out most basic banking tasks at your nearest Post Office.

You won’t be able to apply for a loan or open a new bank account at once though.

You can find your nearest Post Office branch by using the locator tool on its website.

Many banks offer a mobile banking service – where they bring a bus to your area offering services you can usually get at a physical branch.

Other banks use buildings such as village halls or libraries to offer mobile banking services.

It’s worth contacting your bank to see what services they have available, and when they might next be in your area.

Bank closures are just one of the many problems battering Scotland’s struggling high streets.

Scores of big name chains are closing down branches as they feel the squeeze of rising costs.

And small business owners have been losing their livelihoods as they struggle to keep up with mounting pressures, forcing them to shut down.

We recently told how one of Scotland’s biggest shopping streets, which was once a crown jewel of Glasgow city centre, has since become a dilapidated mess, plagued by empty units, almost no foot traffic, and unfinished building work.
