Former Barclays bank in North Wales town could get a new future

A former Barclays bank could get a new future under fresh plans. The branch in Flint closed back in 2021 as the banking giant slashed site numbers.

The site has remained empty since then. But this could be about to change.

A proposal has been submitted to turn the Church Street site into a sport bar. Under the plan there would also be two flats on the first and second floors.

An application is in with Flintshire council from Lucas Hunter. A statement from agent Keystone Design Associates spells out the plans.

They said: “The site is a former Barclays bank that is currently vacant located between Chester Street and Chapel Street. The proposal will comprise of a bar, sports bar, kitchen, w/c’s, seating area and beer garden to the ground floor with a floor area of 201m2 and 2no flats consisting of a dining/living room, kitchen, bathroom and three bedrooms to the first and second floors.

“External alterations are to be carried out to the main building frontage by the installation of anew frontage to the ground floor which is a traditional timber fenestration to the shop front which is sympathetic to the wider street scene. The proposal retains the proportions and character of the original building.”
