Director, CFCC Advisory, Transaction Banking & Client Coverage Americas


Purpose/SUMMARY of the role:

  • Ensure conduct, financial crime and compliance (‘CFCC’) risks are identified and managed for the Client Coverage (CC) CC& Transaction Banking (TB) businesses
  • Develop, maintain and where necessary, oversee and challenge standards, policies and procedures to address conduct, financial crime and compliance risks
  • Serve as second line of defence (‘2LoD’) advisory, oversight and challenge in support of the CC and TB business divisions.
  • Collaborate with other Functional teams to anticipate risks and develop strategies to mitigate .

The Role Responsibilities:

  • Assist the Head of US CFCC Advisory – CC & TB to ensure the establishment and maintenance of risk-based compliance frameworks and the program for monitoring and assuring compliance that supports the transition to pro-active and pre-emptive compliance and conduct risk mitigation, in relation to the CC & TB businesses
  • Serve as part of an independent second line risk control function, to execute the relevant aspects of the (‘CFCC’) Principle Risk Type Frameworks (PRTFs) through robust independent risk control and the provision of specialist advice and constructive challenge in a manner proportionate to the nature, scale and complexity of the CC & TB businesses
  • Support the development and recommendation of CFCC policies and procedures for the CC & TB products in line with the vision and strategy for the CFCC function, and in support of the Bank’s strategic direction and growth aspirations
  • Develop a comprehensive understanding of the CCIB business model, strategy, products and services, with a particular focus on CC & TB, in order to assist in providing oversight support and challenge which will enable appropriate and sustainable CFCC outcomes
  • Provide conduct, financial crime and compliance related advice, analysis and challenge when appropriate in relation to CCIB businesses, with a particular focus on CC & TB, including product design, new business initiatives, bespoke projects, remedial activities (including nature, scale and rigour of past business reviews), and transactional advice
  • Support and maintain effective standards/policies/processes/DOIs (including training, advice and support) to address conduct, financial crime and compliance risks across the CC & TB businesses, aligning with relevant regulatory requirements
  • Provide support to the governance and oversight over the implementation of CFCC related standards, policies and procedures relevant to CC & TB
  • Establish, maintain and/or advise on processes (including training, advice and support), where deemed necessary, to ensure that policies, procedures and standards to address compliance and conduct risks are effectively implemented
  • Help to drive the migration of skill, knowledge, best practice and lessons learned across the network between CFCC Advisory colleagues especially in relation to regulatory risks and compliance with relevant regulations and internal policies/standards as they pertain to the CC & TB business
  • Collaborate with the other Group, Regional and Country CFCC Advisory teams to anticipate horizon risks that may have a significant impact on CC & TB and develop effective strategies to mitigate such horizon risks
  • Liaise as needed with the internal audit function to ensure that any CFCC Advisory weakness identified by the internal audit function relating to CC & TB activities are appropriately followed up
  • Provide advice on the application of risk management frameworks (e.g., ERMF) and provide advice to relevant stakeholders on outcomes of risk identification and assessment methodologies

Our Ideal Candidate:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Knowledge of banking and securities rules and regulations (and relevant products and services, particularly Transaction Banking Cash and Trade, Correspondent Banking and FinTech) as they apply in the US
  • 6 years’ experience in a global matrix organization
  • Knowledge of risk identification (with a focus on Financial Crime and Compliance related risk types), risk assessment, controls development, monitoring and reporting
  • Exemplary integrity, ethics, independence and resilience
  • Strong interpersonal and communications skills and multi-cultural awareness and sensitivity
  • Strong project management and organizational skills
  • Ability to handle sensitive matters at all levels of the organization with discretion and confidentiality
  • Ability to collaborate and work dynamically across country, region, business and group stakeholders

Expected annual base pay range for the role is 120,501 USD to 180,751 USD. The final offer will be determined on an individualised basis using a number of variables, including but not limited to skill set, depth of experience and education, internal relativity, and specific work location. At Standard Chartered Bank, Base pay is only part of the total compensation package.
