Arc Fond du Lac receives $15,000 for Trauma Informed Care program
The Arc Fond du Lac has received a $15,000 donation from SSM Health Greater Fond du Lac to help introduce Trauma Informed Care for its employees and program participants.
TIC is a medical care in which all parties involved assess, recognize and respond to the effects of traumatic stress on children, caregivers and health care providers.
TIC includes the prevention, identification and assessment of trauma, response to trauma and recovery from trauma as a focus of all services.
“Providing Trauma Informed Care will allow The Arc to support our employees and program participants by offering mental health resources, medical referrals and more,” Dawn Scannell, The Arc Fond du Lac executive director, said in a news release. “Participants with a trauma history often have behaviors as an expression of emotion, labeling these behaviors as ‘maladaptive’ can make trauma worse. Using Trauma Informed Care, our agency will move away from trying to ‘fix’ these behaviors to becoming aware of why they are occurring and providing more appropriate services.”
The Arc Fond du Lac provides services to more than 800 families and individuals with disabilities living in Fond du Lac, Dodge, and Winnebago counties.
For more information, contact The Arc Fond du Lac at 920-923-3810 or arcfdl.org.

Fond du Lac students to participate in German YES! competition
Fond du Lac High School students in the German program have the opportunity to take part in an authentic learning experience, the Young Economic Solutions (YES!) competition in Germany.
Students from the high school and STEM Academy will compete against other students from Germany and around the world. Only three districts from the United States were selected.
For the competition, students develop a solution to an economic/social/environmental issue, present their solutions and field questions — all in German.
Fond du Lac students are working with Professor Alexander Hillert from the Leibniz Institute for financial-market research on the topic of getting more people to invest responsibly in the stock market.
Students attending will depart Sept. 16 to take part in the competition that will take place Sept. 17-20 in Hamburg, Germany. Winning teams from the competition will be invited to Berlin, where the winning team’s idea will be placed on the political agenda.
