High street giant Barclays has announced 57 more branches will be closed throughout 2024 and 2025 – adding to the 157 that shut in 2023.
Barclays joins other big banks in closing branches this year, with Natwest and RBS set to axe 19, and Lloyds and Halifax shutting 45 branches.
This might be a good time to consider switching to another bank – not only may you find a local branch near you, you could also earn a switching bonus.

Other ways to pay in cash/cheques if your bank branch is closing
You might be worried about depositing money into your bank account, with a rising number of bank closures on the high street. The good news is, there are some options.
First off, you have the post office. If you want to deposit any money into your bank account or cash in cheques, this service is provided at the post office.
You can use their branch finder to see if there is one near you, by entering your postcode, city or street name.
Alternatively, you can visit a banking hub. Due to an increasing number of bank branch closures, there are plans to open banking hubs in the UK. For now, there are 31 hubs open across the UK.
The service provided by the Post Office helps with personal banking, for example, cash withdrawals and paying-in cash, plus business banking and bill payments.
