Bank of Scotland branch closures – see if your facility is shutting in summer cull

Thousands of bank branches across the UK have been closed over the past few years and Scotland has not been immune to that trend. Rural areas have been particularly badly impacted by banks’ desire to cut down on their costs – despite the negative impact on customers.

Bosses blame a downturn in people physically using banks – little wonder when they make it so difficult to do business in person. Instead, customers are pushed onto impersonal apps and websites where they find it increasingly difficult to get their queries answered.

Some lucky communities might get a banking hub or mobile banking facility. Recent figures suggest the UK has lost 6,000 bank branches in the past nine years. Consumer group Which? said for some people the “impact can be disastrous”.

Among that 6,000 was over 1,000 being shut by the Lloyds Banking Group, made up of Lloyds Bank, Halifax and Bank of Scotland. Fourteen Bank of Scotland branches are currently in line to close with a summer cull getting underway on June 11 when the Aviemore branch shut.

And over the coming two months, a further nine branches will go. Lloyds says some of these will be replaced by banking hubs or community bankers. But in other circumstances, customers will simply need to find a new branch.
