Many hard-working El Pasoans will look forward to a day off on Fourth of July. It’s a great day to get together for family barbecues, shop for summer items or enjoy some pool time.
Government offices will be closed on Independence Day. Banks and credit unions also tend to be closed on this patriotic holiday.
So before heading out the door, here’s a good checklist to know what will be open or closed for the Fourth of July.
Is UPS closed on July 4th? Will packages be delivered?
UPS pickup and delivery services will not be available on Thursday, July 4 and UPS Store locations may be closed, according to the company’s website.
Check hours of operation before heading out.
Are banks open on the 4th of July?
Branches of Capital One, Bank of America, PNC, Truist, CitiBank and JPMorgan Chase will be closed on the Fourth of July, the companies confirmed to USA TODAY.
Wells Fargo branches will be closed on Thursday, July 4, according to its website.
GECU offices and branches will be closed, and ATMs and mobile banking will be working.
Is the post office open on July 4th? Will mail be delivered?
Post offices will be closed on Thursday, July 4, and the Postal Service will not deliver regular mail or packages on that date.
Is FedEx open on July 4th? Will packages be delivered?
Most of FedEx’s pickup and delivery services will not be available on July 4, according to the company’s website. FedEx Office hours will also be modified, so it is best to check with your local store for their specific hours.
FedEx Custom Critical, however, is available 24/7, according to the company.
Will Walmart be open on July 4th?
Walmart be open on the Fourth of July, but store hours vary by location.
Is Target open on 4th of July?
Target will be open and operating under normal store business hours.
Is Costco open on July 4th?
Costco will be closed on July 4th.
Is Sam’s open on July 4th?
Sam’s stores will be open. Hours will be 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. for Plus members; 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. for club members.
Are city/county offices closed on 4th of July?
El Paso County administrative offices and the Enrique Moreno County Courthouse will be closed on July 4.
All city of El Paso administrative offices will be closed on Thursday, July 4.
Residential trash and recycling collection will not be affected by the holiday.

Socorro ISD to close for summer break, including July 4
The Socorro Independent School District will be closed for the summer break from Monday, July 1 through Friday, July 5. The SISD Employee Health Clinic and pharmacy also will be closed for the week. The district will re-open on Monday, July 8. In an emergency, please contact SISD Police Services Dispatch at (915) 937-4357.
July 4 closings in Las Cruces
In observance of the Fourth of July holiday, most city of Las Cruces offices and facilities will be closed Thursday, July 4. However, all emergency services, including police and fire, will operate as usual. Some programs will close early on July 3.
City offices, facilities or programs open and operating Thursday, July 4, include:
- All commercial and residential solid waste collections will operate as usual on Thursday, July 4.
- Laabs Pool, 701 W. Picacho Ave., and East Mesa Bataan Memorial Pool, 6151 Reynolds Drive, will be open on Thursday, July 4. Both outdoor pools will have Free Swim days. Swim sessions will be from noon to 3 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.
- Las Cruces Regional Aquatic Center will be open from 7:30 a.m. to noon on Thursday, July 4. No afternoon swim session will be offered.
- Las Cruces Natatorium will be open from 7:30 a.m. to noon on Thursday, July 4. No afternoon swim session will be offered.
- The South Central Solid Waste Transfer Station, 2865 W. Amador Ave., and the Corralitos Landfill will close early at 2 p.m. All scheduled curbside collections will run as normal.
Dona Ana County administrative offices to close on July 4
Doña Ana County’s administrative offices will be closed Thursday, July 4, and Friday, July 5, in observance of Independence Day and Employee Appreciation Day, respectively. All county offices will resume regular business hours at 8 a.m. Monday, July 8.
