£25 could be paid into people’s accounts within days to help heat their homes as an icy blast is set to sweep the UK. As forecasters predict temperatures are set to fall, the Cold Weather Payment scheme is back.
It runs until March 31 and sees people offered £25 per seven days when the average temperature falls to zero degrees or below, reports BirminghamLive. The government has said that people will receive £25 for each 7-day period of very cold weather between November 1 and March 31 next year.
Those who receive Pension Credit, Income Support, income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance (JSA) and income related Employment and Support Allowance (ESA) can be eligible for Cold Weather Payments. Those who receive Universal Credit or Support for Mortgage Interest may also qualify for a payment.

If people are eligible for Cold Weather Payments, they should be paid automatically. If the cold weather period is triggered, the payment should land within 14 working days.
It’s paid into the same bank or building society account as your benefit payments. UK families and households should inform the Pension Service or Jobcentre Plus, the government has said, if they think they should have got a Cold Weather Payment but have not.
