Child Benefit payments missing from bank accounts as HMRC breaks silence

Thousand of parents report to have been left without child benefit payment on Monday (June 3). A spokesperson for HMRC acknowledged they had been made aware of the rumours as chaos erupted on Twitter, now X, with people complaining.

Michelle Hall tweeted: “@BBCBreaking @SkyNews @GBNEWS @BBCRadio1PR @BBCNews @MartinSLewis it appears that nobody in the UK has received their child benefit payment this morning. Leaving some distraught. Can this be covered on the news this morning? #notpaidchildbenefit”

HMRC has responded to the complaints on Twitter/X saying: “Good Morning, We are aware some customers’ Child Benefit payments have not arrived in their bank account today. We are working to resolve the issue. Tom”

“Great so Child Benefit has not gone in, leaving me f***ed and of course you can’t call anyone for hours and when I do ill end up in a call queue for hours. This is going to be a great day! I can tell already! @HMRCgovuk @HMRCcustomers @hmrc,” a second fumed.

A third said: “Anyone else whose #ChildBenefit has not been paid today? # DWP are experiencing “technical difficulties” and “can’t answer your call at the moment, goodbye”. So no money and no way of contacting DWP. Some of us rely on that money. What are we supposed to do?”

“Can you please explain why thousands of people haven’t received their child benefit today? Me being one of them. You’ve left so many people in trouble, and before you say it no, it isn’t the banks fault!” another raged.

“Mummy’s has anyone else not received their child benefit payment? The last time I got mine was the 24th may due to the 27th being a bank holiday,” another said. Another fumed: “Child Benefit hasn’t gone in. Seeing some kids unable to get to school because of no bus fare and others with no money for food.
