A new colourful weather map shows that some parts of UK could be in for some warm, sunny weather this bank holiday weekend with temperatures reaching as high as 18C in some places.
Brits in three areas could have a warm Bank Holiday weekend as some areas are set to see highs of 18C.
Some of us could be lucky enough to enjoy temperatures as high as 18C but others can expect the usual wet and unsettled weather we have experienced so far this April. A new colourful weather map shows amber and yellow splotches show that just three regions in the UK can look forward to slightly warmer weather.
Carlisle in Scotland is one of them with temperatures expected to reach around 18C while further North in Edinburgh, 16C will likely be the highest they go. The Midlands, Pennines and Newcastle will also see these milder temperatures of 16C. However, London and surrounding areas won’t be so warm and will likely sit around the 12C mark, as well as other parts of England and Wales which could at times, reach 15C if lucky.
On the coast, Devon and Cornwall will feel similar temperatures, as well as East Anglia and the Norfolk coast. While weather across the UK will be mixed this weekend, it does seem that the UK is slowly moving towards the warmer temperatures of the summer.
Mark Sidaway, deputy chief Meteorologist for the Met Office told the Express that although unsettled weather is still expected, warmer weather is in store. He said: “There continues to be uncertainty around the track of a low-pressure system which is expected to cross the southern UK this weekend, meaning there is some uncertainty about some of the forecast details.”
“While it will remain unsettled with further showers or longer spells of rain, all areas should see some drier conditions at some point and, in any sunshine, it should feel quite warm. But for the exact details for your area stay up to date with the forecast over the coming days.”
According the three-day forecast by the Met Office, today we can expect mostly cloudy skies across many regions, accompanied by intermittent showers, some possibly thunderous – particularly in southern Scotland and parts of northern and eastern England. However, despite the overcast conditions, temperatures will remain warm, although the northern areas may experience brisk winds. There will be breaks in the clouds, allowing for bright spells, especially in the far south of England.
Tonight, central and northern areas can anticipate further showery rain, occasionally heavy, while northern Scotland should largely remain dry with clear intervals. Southern England will also experience clear spells, but with the possibility of patchy fog and even frost forming in some areas.
Sunday will bring warm spells of sunshine, accompanied by scattered showers throughout the day. Monday is expected to mirror this pattern for many areas, with the possibility of more persistent rain in the southern regions. However, conditions begin to settle down by Tuesday, indicating a gradual improvement in weather stability as we move further through May.
