UK Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs David Cameron says he has imposed sanctions on individuals involved in human rights abuses in the West Bank.
The West Bank is the larger of the two occupied Palestinian territories and has taken a fair share of Israeli bombardments initially targeted at the Gaza Strip in retaliatory attacks against Hamas.
Hamas-run Health Ministry put the death toll from the incursions at over 29,000 people (27,708 Palestinian and 1,410 Israeli) as of February 11, 2024.
Israel has continued to bomb Gaza and attack Palestinians in the occupied West Bank despite growing international criticism.
“Today, I announced sanctions on individuals involved in serious human rights abuses in the West Bank. The UK is clear: We will hold to account those who undermine prospects for peace,” Cameron said on X.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has remained resolute that the war against Hamas will continue unabated even as backing from some key world leaders appears to be waning.
CCN reports that US President Joe Biden is increasingly becoming frustrated over the PM’s decision to ignore his advice and obstructing efforts to alleviate the humanitarian crisis in Gaza.
A Dutch court also ruled Monday that the Netherlands must stop the export of F-35 fighter jet parts to Israel within seven days due to what it called Israel’s “attacks” on the Gaza Strip.
The Dutch government has appealed the court’s decision.
On Monday, the Palestine Red Crescent Society said overnight Israeli strikes in Rafah killed more than 100 people on a day the Israeli forces rescued two Israel-Argentine hostages in the area in a “covert operation”.
Rafah is a city on the southern tip of Gaza on the border with Egypt and is currently home to more than half of Gaza’s population displaced from elsewhere in the enclave.
