Digital Shovel CEO reveals alternative to Bitcoin Mining Shipping containers | CryptoTvplus
At the Bitcoin Amsterdam Live 2023, Scot Johnson, president and CEO of Digital Shovel, made a staggering presentation proclaiming the obsolescence of Bitcoin mining shipping containers, while arguing the benefits of a new modular approach.
Bitcoin mining shipping containers are a novel and efficient approach to cryptocurrency mining. These containers are essentially pre-fabricated data centers designed specifically for housing and operating Bitcoin mining hardware.
These containers provide an efficient and mobile solution for Bitcoin mining operations, allowing miners to take advantage of cost-effective locations for electricity and cooling while maintaining scalability and remote manageability.
However, Bitcoin mining shipping containers also come with the challenges of logistics, maintenance, and cost considerations.
Digital Shovel, and improvement of Bitcoin mining
Speaking about the change in the industry, the CEO noted that Digital Shovel, a Bitcoin mining infrastructure and electrical equipment manufacturer, has come a long way since its establishment in 2016.
Initially, Digital Shovel’s journey involved repurposing shipping containers into Bitcoin mining data centers. However, this approach had limitations and constraints, particularly in terms of design flexibility and scaling capabilities.
He explained that the traditional approach of converting shipping containers limited the company’s engineering objectives and flexibility in designing Bitcoin mining solutions. The need for scalability and versatility led Digital Shovel to innovate and develop modular units that could be easily scaled up or down according to the project’s requirements.
He added that the advantages of the modular approach became evident as it allowed miners to adjust the size of their data centers based on factors like site size, transformer capacity, gas production at stranded gas sites, and generator replacements. This flexibility enabled miners to optimize their resources and reduce the underutilization of assets.
The speaker noted that Digital Shovel’s innovative solution to the mining problem, known as the “mini-pod,” has garnered significant attention and adoption in the mining industry.
He also announced the introduction of the new and improved version, the “s300,” which further enhances the modularity and scalability of their product.
s300 Bitcoin mining Infrastructure
According to Scot, one of the main advantages of the s300 is its logistical ease. Unlike traditional shipping containers that require heavy machinery for transportation, these modular units can be easily moved using a forklift. This significantly reduces logistics costs, making it a more practical and cost-effective solution for miners.
Furthermore, the modularity of the S300 allows it to be shipped in a disassembled state, similar to an IKEA kitchen set. This feature is particularly beneficial for international customers as it reduces shipping costs by almost 60%.
Scot pointed out that the s300 represents a significant departure from the limitations of Bitcoin mining shipping containers. By offering a modular and scalable solution, Digital Shovel has provided miners with a more efficient and flexible option for their mining operations.
