Solicitor/Senior Solicitor (Full Time) (Permanent)

LOCATION: Customer Service Centre Renfrewshire House Cotton Street, PA1 1LQ
SALARY: £43,672 – £46,300 per year
CONTRACT TYPE: Permanent
POSITION TYPE: Full Time
HOURS: 35 hours per week

An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Projects team in Legal and Corporate Governance. We are seeking a dynamic, engaging and dedicated professional to become part of our multidisciplinary legal team providing Projects advice to Council departments, Scotland Excel and the Clyde Valley Residual Waste Project. You will be part of a successful and motivated team working in a dynamic and fast paced environment delivering projects such as the new Bridge over the River Clyde, the new Paisley Grammar School Community Campus, and a number of projects designed to regenerate Renfrewshire.

You must hold a current Practising Certificate, LLB and a Diploma in Legal Practice. 

While the department is seeking a senior solicitor role at Grade 10, we would be willing to consider candidates who meet a Grade 9 criteria.

Requirements for Grade 9 include:

  • you must have some contract drafting experience, but there is no requirement to have specific construction or projects experience however Knowledge of construction contracts is essential.
  • you must be keen to learn and undertake personal development to work towards a Grade 10 level (achievement of which will be assessed by further interview).
  • you must have effective interpersonal, report writing and communication skills and the ability to develop effective links with clients.

In addition to the above requirements for Grade 10 include:

  • you must have construction experience and be able to carry out a range of tasks within a broad construction-based remit.
  • you must have an ability to work under pressure.
  • you must be able motivate others and demonstrate an ability to deliver innovation in service delivery.
  • you must have an ability to deal with complex legal matters and have contract drafting skills.
  • you must have an understanding of how the EU procurement rules affect local authority projects and construction contracts and framework agreements.
  • you will be able to demonstrate involvement in such projects either in the public or private sector, and an ability to make a contribution to the successful delivery of such projects.
  • You will have working knowledge of SBCC and NEC contract suites aswell as working knowledge of construction related documents such as, building contracts, engineering contracts, development agreements, consultant appointments, bonds, PCG’s and collateral warranties
  • Ability to advise officers on appropriate selection of form of contract or advantages and disadvantages of particular procurement options e.g. D&B, traditional, two stage tendering etc.
