“Say yes and give your money to us”: Jimmy Kimmel Gets Mercilessly Trolled For Refusing Ryan Reynolds and Ben Affleck’s Money

Even though labor disputes have shaken the entertainment sector, this incredible deed by some A-list actors has received praise from both Hollywood and fans. They are such kind, generous, and helpful people. According to Jimmy Kimmel, Ben Affleck, Matt Damon, and Ryan Reynolds made sizable offers to pay his staff during the ongoing Hollywood writers’ strike.

For the unversed, the late-night host of talk show, Jimmy Kimmel Live!, has been on hiatus since May, when the Writers Guild of America (WGA) went on strike following months of failed negotiations with major studios.

Ben Affleck, Ryan Reynolds Contributed to Paying Jimmy Kimmel’s Staff

The Strike Force Five podcast was introduced on Spotify earlier this week thanks to Jimmy Kimmel’s collaboration with fellow late-night hosts- Jimmy Fallon, Stephen Colbert, Seth Meyers, and John Oliver. Considering that the Writers Guild of America strike, which began in May, is still in effect, this collaboration will benefit their respective unemployed employees.

The generosity of Kimmel’s real-life friends is revealed in the show’s first episode:

“Ben Affleck and the despicable Matt Damon contacted me and offered to pay our staff. Apologies to Matt Damon, but we ran out of time.”

Returning to the strike, Kimmel said in his podcast comments that Ben Affleck and Matt Damon “wanted to pay out of their own pockets”, implying that they could each pay for one week’s worth of his employees’ salaries.

To which, Fallon added that the pair are “good people”.

In the end, according to Kimmel, he declined the offer because

“I felt that was not their responsibility.”

His co-hosts mercilessly trolled him after the confession, with Colbert joking:

“Could you say yes and then give your money to us.”

Meanwhile, Meyers enquired as to whether the offer was “transferable.”

Additionally, Ryan Reynolds reportedly offered Kimmel’s staff a year of free Mint Mobile service as a way of helping out. One of the sponsors of the podcast is Mint Mobile.

Jimmy Kimmel Was ‘Very Intent On Retiring’

Jimmy Kimmel has admitted that he had intended to retire before the current Writers Guild of America (WGA) strike began.

Earlier this year, Kimmel announced his intention to stop hosting Jimmy Kimmel Live! However, his thinking has since changed as a result of the ongoing writers’ strike, as he discussed on the recently released Strike Force Five podcast on Spotify.

“I was very intent on retiring right around the time where the strike started. And now, I realize, Oh yeah, it’s kind of nice to work.”

In response, Seth Meyers joked:

“Kimmel, c’mon, you are the Tom Brady of late night… you have feigned retirement.”

But Kimmel insisted that his intention to retire was genuine:

“I was serious, I was very, very serious.”

Soon after the writers’ strike was declared, it came to light that Jimmy Fallon and Seth Meyers were supporting the cause by personally paying their writers during the strike.

The Screen Actors Guild (SAG-AFTRA) announced in July that it would be joining the WGA’s strike, making this the first time since 1960 that both unions have participated in a joint strike.

Spotify will only host Strike Force Five for a brief period of time—12 weeks.
