The Africa regions of the World Bank Group (WBG) have opened applications for the 2024 WBG Africa Fellowship Program, targeting Ph.D. candidates and recent graduates from Sub-Saharan Africa. The fellowship aims to develop the capacity of future African leaders in development research and policy-making to aid poverty reduction.
Fellows will spend six months at WBG’s Washington D.C. headquarters or a country office from January-June 2024, working on research, economic policy, technical assistance, and lending operations that align with WBG’s goals of eradicating poverty and enhancing shared prosperity. The program has successfully built a robust pipeline of young African talent since its inception.
Eligibility criteria include recent Ph.D. completion (within three years) or enrollment in the final year of a Ph.D. program, strong English skills, strong quantitative and analytical skills, and being under the age of 32.
The selection process involves two phases: shortlisting candidates for hire across various WBG units, followed by the final selection in consultation with these units. Fellows will begin as short-term consultants from January 2024, receiving consultant fees and round-trip economy class air travel. Applications opened on 18 July 2023, with an application deadline of 25 August 2023.
