Baseball, hot dogs and … ketchup made with cola? That’s what’s coming to the plate at four Major League Baseball parks on July 4, courtesy of Pepsi.
We know Pepsi is not shy when it comes to mashing up tastes. Remember the Pepsi-infused pepperoni and the Peeps-flavored Pepsi?
As part of its #BetterWithPepsi campaign, the cola maker decided to take things a step beyond suggesting hot dog lovers crack – or twist – open a bottle of Pepsi with their munchies. Pepsi teamed up again with the Culinary Institute of America, which assisted on the Pepsi pepperoni, to create a ketchup with Pepsi as an ingredient, letting you literally put Pepsi on your hot dog and not just wash it down with a Pepsi.
“The concept is both simple and creative,” said David Kamen, director of client experience for CIA Consulting, the institute’s consulting arm, in a statement within the Pepsi Colachup announcement. “The distinctive flavors and vibrant citrus blend of Pepsi enhances the bright and tangy characteristics of ketchup, offsetting the smokiness of the hot dog.”
Where can you try Pepsi Colachup?
Baseball fans can try the Pepsi-infused ketchup on July 4 at the home fields of four Major League Baseball teams –the Detroit Tigers, Minnesota Twins, Arizona Diamondbacks and New York Yankees:
- Chase Field, Phoenix, AZ; Section 130/131
- Yankee Stadium, Bronx, NY; Pepsi Lounge (Pepsi Lounge Ticket Required)
- Target Field, Minneapolis, MN; Section 113
- Comerica Park, Detroit, MI; Section 139
How to get free Pepsi when you buy hot dogs over July 4th weekend
Just because you can’t hit one of those ballparks doesn’t mean you can’t have a Pepsi moment. From Wednesday until July 4, buy hot dogs and Pepsi and then text “FREEPEPSI” to 81234 and upload the receipt for up to $2.59 toward the cost of a 20-ounce Pepsi product.

In past summers, Pepsi has used its #BetterWithPepsi to drive home how hamburgers and pizza both make good pairings for Pepsi.
“We invented Pepsi Colachup to reinforce just how well hot dogs and Pepsi go together – an unapologetically mouthwatering creation that seamlessly merges a condiment with the ultimate hot dog pairing beverage, delivering a unified taste experience,” said Pepsi senior director Jenny Danzi.
