(Alliance News) – The UK Competition & Markets Authority on Tuesday announced that it will look to fill two new executive director roles, citing an expansion in responsibilities since the UK left the EU.
“Since the UK left the EU the CMA has grown as an organisation, taking on more responsibilities and new functions. This includes the Office for the Internal Market & Subsidy Advice Unit, as well as an enhanced responsibility for larger and more complex merger control reviews. In addition, the Digital Markets, Competition & Consumers bill envisages the CMA taking on greater responsibilities including in relation to digital markets regulation,” the authority said.
One new executive director role will be executive director of the Mergers unit focused on the “more complex mergers post-Brexit”, with a dedicated responsibility for mergers.
The other new executive director role will be for its Digital Markets unit, focused on the Digital Markets, Competition & Consumers bill and new powers associated with that.
The authority explained that David Steward, the current executive director for Markets & Mergers will be executive director of Markets, Remedies & Regulation, which will include responsibility for the Internal Market and Subsidy Advice units.
The CMA said it will launch a recruitment campaign for the two roles in the coming weeks alongside a recruitment of a new general counsel on a permanent basis.
