Organised by Greta Carruthers, who manages the Cats Protection Society charity shop in Carlisle city centre, the event took place on Saturday, April 15, at 2pm, within and just outside the premises.
The event was a successful fundraiser for the charity, which sells clothing, household items, entertainment media, and knitting wool primarily.
The day saw some volunteers model clothes from the shop to both advertise and entertain, and a tombola at the checkout kept the money rolling in.
Judith Cook, a singer based in Brampton who has performed across the country, and has authored two books so far, lent her singing skills and performed outside of the shop.
She said of the event: “It was really really good, we put it on all ourselves, there were nine volunteers, but Greta was the one who organised it.
“She had a fantastic tombola, some fantastic raffle prizes, there were plenty of people in and around the shop.
“To me, I think everybody should have some music to promote their premises, music is definitely the way to go for doing something and getting people into your shop.
“Because I was performing out on the street just outside of the shop, I didn’t need a licence to perform which would have been extra money, and there was a girl with a collection box outside as well so people who were walking by but didn’t want to go in were putting some money towards it, just because they really appreciated what we were doing.
“Charity shops are the way to go in the current climate.”
