U.K. shares lower at close of trade; Investing.com United Kingdom 100 down 0.88% By Investing.com
Investing.com – U.K. equities were lower at the close on Thursday, as losses in the Tobacco, Banking and Fixed Line Telecommunications sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in London, the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 declined 0.88%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Investing.com United Kingdom 100 were Melrose Industries PLC (LON:MRON), which rose 3.70% or 5.70 points to trade at 159.85 at the close. Samsung Electronics Co Ltd DRC (LON:0593xq) added 3.50% or 41.00 points to end at 1,213.00 and Ocado Group PLC (LON:OCDO) was up 2.83% or 12.30 points to 447.40 in late trade.
Biggest losers included British American Tobacco PLC (LON:BATS), which lost 5.54% or 165.50 points to trade at 2,823.50 in late trade. Schroders PLC (LON:SDR) declined 3.88% or 18.00 points to end at 445.40 and Standard Chartered PLC (LON:STAN) shed 3.01% or 19.60 points to 632.40.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 972 to 802 and 493 ended unchanged on the London Stock Exchange.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was up 2.76% or 53.80 to $2,003.40 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in May fell 0.80% or 0.57 to hit $70.33 a barrel, while the May Brent oil contract fell 0.60% or 0.46 to trade at $76.23 a barrel.
GBP/USD was unchanged 0.32% to 1.23, while EUR/GBP unchanged 0.10% to 0.88.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.03% at 101.94.
