Cumnock: No confirmed location for permanent banking hub

A temporary hub was recently opened within Cumnock library, following the closure of the town’s final bank branch.

Banking hubs across the country are the work of the LINK Group, a consortium of banks, which agreed two years ago to set up a group to examine whether over-the-counter services and access to cash are needed in any town that has lost a traditional branch.

The new banking hubs are being delivered by a bank-owned infrastructure company called Cash Access UK.

Cumnock’s banking hub, open five days a week, offers advice from specialist advisors from a number of high street banks.

The final bank branch in Cumnock, Bank of Scotland on Townhead Street, closed in June, in a move which received widespread criticism.

However, the new banking hub has had positive feedback from those who have used it.

While the current location within the library is a temporary one, Cash Access UK say that a permanent location has yet to be decided.

It’s believed that a potential location is the former TSB bank building on Townhead Street, which has been disused since the branch closed its doors.

A Cash Access UK spokesperson said: “Cash Access UK is currently working to secure a permanent home for the Banking Hub but the location has not been confirmed yet.

“In the coming months, they will provide updates on their website and the temporary Hub will remain open until the permanent Hub is up and running.”
