Gulfport receives grants from US Department of Housing and Urban Development

Big changes could be coming to the City of Gulfport in the future.

The United States Department of Housing and Development has announced that Gulfport will receive a 2024 CDBG Entitlement allocation of $759,822 and a HOME Investment Partnerships Entitlement allocation of $447,046.72.

This funding will provide suitable housing and more economic opportunities to low-income and moderate-income Gulfport residents.

Other activities that CDBG funds may be used for include construction of public facilities, rehabilitation of structures, acquisition of property, relocation or demolition of structures, and conservation of energy.

Residents are encouraged to attend public hearings relating to the grants to provide input on current community needs and assist in the development of an action plan.

The first of these hearings began at 5:30 this evening, the second will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, July 10. All hearings will be held in the Gulfport City Hall Council Chambers.

On Thursday, July 11, a draft of the City of Gulfport’s 2024 CDBG and HOME Action plan will be available on the city website. The plan will also be available for review at Gulfport City Hall, Gulfport Community Development, Gulfport Public Library, and Orange Grove Public Library.

Residents will have until Friday, August 9, to provide written comments.
