U.K. stocks lower at close of trade; Investing.com United Kingdom 100 down 0.20% By Investing.com


Investing.com – U.K. stocks were lower after the close on Friday, as losses in the , and sectors led shares lower.

At the close in London, the lost 0.20% to hit a new 1-month low.

The best performers of the session on the were BT Group PLC (LON:), which rose 3.37% or 4.55 points to trade at 139.55 at the close. Meanwhile, Tesco PLC (LON:) added 2.55% or 7.70 points to end at 310.20 and Sage Group PLC (LON:) was up 2.47% or 25.50 points to 1,056.50 in late trade.

The worst performers of the session were Burberry Group PLC (LON:), which fell 4.23% or 43.30 points to trade at 980.20 at the close. Melrose Industries PLC (LON:) declined 4.21% or 26.40 points to end at 600.60 and BAE Systems PLC (LON:) was down 3.47% or 48.00 points to 1,335.00.

Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the London Stock Exchange by 1205 to 574 and 716 ended unchanged.

Shares in BT Group PLC (LON:) rose to 52-week highs; rising 3.37% or 4.55 to 139.55. Shares in Burberry Group PLC (LON:) fell to 5-year lows; down 4.23% or 43.30 to 980.20.

Gold Futures for August delivery was up 1.19% or 27.70 to $2,345.70 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in July fell 0.08% or 0.06 to hit $78.56 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract fell 0.02% or 0.02 to trade at $82.73 a barrel.

GBP/USD was down 0.64% to 1.27, while EUR/GBP unchanged 0.27% to 0.84.

The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.02% at 105.21.
